HENRY ROLLINS: I'm Losing Sleep Over War In Iraq
May 7, 2003Punk rock icon Henry Rollins recently spoke to Australia's Beat magazine about the war in Iraq. "It's a whole new thing," Rollins said. "I really wonder about that guy [George Bush]. In fact now I'm losing sleep over it. I'm serious — I'm actually losing sleep. What worries me is that there's a lot more going on than Bush just wanting to disarm Hussein. There's gotta be more to this. And I don't know if it's just an oil thing… it just doesn't make a great deal of sense to me. Look how few other countries wanted in on this. Apart from it being a war and people dying there's just something about that is unbelievable. It's almost as if it's put on, like a show."
Asked if it would it be as simple as George W. having a Hollywood-esque desire to finish off what his father didn't in the prequel, Henry said, "I don't think Colin Powell would allow that to happen. And North Korea's puttin' up its dukes… I have this vision of America as this bullshit clearing house, giving countries the what-for. That's how you blow the world up. I don't know what's up the arse of North Korea, I only know what I read, but Bush says he won't talk to the North Koreans, but how else do you solve problems? You talk, you negotiate, adult men and women come to the table and rationalize situations. You don't throw threats at each other. It's just stupid. It's all become one big stupid reality TV series, except winning a million bucks at the end is a little different to thousands losing their lives. The most worrying thing will be what happens after the war. What will the next 10 years be like? That's what I'm tripping on. There are going to be all kinds of people jumpin' on the Taliban train after all this."
